‘The Qipao Dress’ 2.0

A while back, I wrote about a Qipao/Cheungsam dress that I made for my little girl to attend my sister in law’s wedding. You can read all about it in the Baby Girl ‘Qipao Dress’ post.

Back then, I thought it would be better to make a version of a Qipao that did not include the typical Asian collar. My daughter’s neck was fairly short and I was not sure if the collar would annoy her. Since then, I have been wondering though, if it is possible to add a collar to the dress and what it would look like on the little one. So, the other day, I sat down and experimented a little and I came up with another version of the ‘Qipao Dress’, this time with Asian collar, faux flap with button and cap sleeves. For more flexibility and enhanced movement, I added an A-line skirt and I cut the back open to ensure easier dressing. Since the summer is hot in Utica, I made the dress from a 100% daisy floral cotton fabric in combination with a plain fabric. The dress is a size 2T.
